why do main characters rarely have an actual personality nowadays
It feels like 80% of them are a blankslate designed for self inserting, their """""personality""""" boils down to: be nice, kick ass and get girls.

why are so many self insert characters thin?
I mean if you've ever been to an anime con like me you know the majority of fans are overweight (and these are the ones who are willing to crawl out of their cave), I mean if you're going the fan service route of making the character thin to make the viewer happy at that point why not just make the self inserts really good looking instead of plain looking?
