I haven't played the remake but it looks absolutely soulless compared to everything in the original. Butchering the Ryu Umemoto music alone is more than enough justification to skip it.
The original is questionably good but it's certainly memorable, especially after the 'halfway' point (really more like 80% into the game). It was ahead of its time on some things, like having the game flowchart exist in-universe and having a justified reason for it being there
