Here's my conspiracy theory: someone already has access to an AI beyond even your wildest dreams. But they don't use it for scientific research, coding, or writing spam emails.
They use it for information control, to shape the narrative. And they're good enough at it that you don't even notice.
The rest of AI development is nothing but a distraction, to make you keep thinking that AI is still dumb enough that you'd notice instantly if your entire worldview was controlled by a computer.
