I usually wear the usual woolen thigh-length coat with a scarf across the chest to windproof the gap between the lapels. Looks good with a shirt, tie and a v-neck sweater underneath. Thicker straight-cut pants/jeans with leather shoes and gloves, keeping it simple, less is more. You don't need to show too much flair off as long as you can coordinate the basics.
