It's a crying shame nobody picked up the slack and the genre completely died. Old games are still there but the populations are just too low.

I had a dedicated group back in the day but if you started talking to a pug group back then, people we're generally motivated to strategize and not give up after a failure, do better etc.

was my experience mostly. I played Gw mostly though, it didn't have the most rigid form of tanking so slip ups and aggro dispersal was par for the course. A party usually had a protection boon giver and a healer usually, so you'd still get covered by the other healer if you managed to draw aggro
