souls storytelling works because of two reasons

i read most of the items descriptions is souls games, in genshin they just drop whole ass books on you without warning, and worst part is that you can't be sure if the book is actually about lore or not, there is an 80% chance the book will be about george, fontaine's number 1 janitor and secretly having an affair with emmanuel
