These are both correct and fair statements.
Fighting games are a dead, niche genre and you're not going to revolutionize it by adding more gooner slop with no commentary or subversion on gooner slop. More played straight porno? big whoop, seen it a million times.
Protecting and enhancing one's portfolio is the most important thing to an artist. If there's a black mark on it like some dead flop, no one gives a damn. It's like putting Wild Wild West on your resume. Do you think that would get Will Smith more movie roles? Of course not.
In other words, the people that rejected you did nothing wrong. The portfolio must be padded with GOOD things, not flops in obscure genres. It's like trying to get hired and going "Yeah, I was in some grindhouse film that 5 people watched" and no one is going to care. Why waste time on that when I could be in something people will actually see, thus get me more attention and better jobs?
