Finished Tsukihime. I would have blogposted the rest of Kohaku’s route (and Eclipse), but some faggot reported me for posting Kohaku's irresistible nipples and I got banned for 3 days... Sorry, bros. Anyway, onto the review!!!
Near Side was fun, if somewhat amateur. It felt very similar to Saber's route in F/SN, in a good and a bad way. Nasu did an excellent job with the worldbuilding and the action, but his writing fell flat outside of that. In both routes the story was mostly carried by Nrvnsqr’s antics, with the story getting markedly worse as soon as he dies... Killing him off so early was a mistake. While Roa’s backstory was interesting, but as a villain and combatant he wasn’t that special. Arcueid’s route in particular has some of the worst romance I’ve ever read, and suffers from an uninspired True End. Ciel’s route is a lot better in that regard, as well as having a better final fight, with her True End being one of my favorite endings in the VN. Her "Good" End was insulting though, and probably the worst ending in the game. What the hell was Nasu thinking, having Ciel get cucked in her GOOD ENDING? How ridiculous. How utterly retarded. Anyway, the rivalry between Ciel and Arc was a lot of fun! As were Shiki's rape antics! Altogether, I think Near Side had the potential to be great, but it ultimately felt rushed and in need of polish most of the time. Still, it was a good start to the VN!
Onto Far Side. I love Far Side so much. Every route in Tsukihime’s second half is kino. As I've said before, Nasu's fights are cool, but his writing excels when Shiki starts losing his fucking mind. I liked him a lot more as a protagonist in Far Side, too. While Near Side's focus on the broader world of Tsukihime was interesting, I had a lot more fun learning about Shiki's circumstances and seeing his interactions with the people in the manor. Every route built on the twists and assumptions of the last one, and trying to the decipher the mysteries throughout was great.
