I'd recommend a female tabby. In my experience I've had two; one that got cancer shortly after I got her and we had to have her put to sleep (RIP Peanut), and a year later we got pic related.
I swear by female cats since the one time I had a male one-- a black Bombay-- he pissed on multiple things around the house, I only kept him for three months before I fucking HAD IT and, against my conscience, brought him back to the shelter. I hope he got a good home after me. I've never had a female piss on things/ spray/ mark. Cat piss smells horrid and takes forever to get out. You basically just use all the carpet cleaner possible and just wait it out for the rest to smell normal again, takes months.
