Roman historian Thallus, writing in the 1st century, refers to a strange darkness during the crucifixion, which early apologists like Julius Africanus i ferenced as an eclipse.

One of the Roman soldiers literally became a Christian right at the site of the crucifixion after being spooked by earthquakes and presumably an eclipse and other signs.
