because, as modern vermiculturists know, along with helminthologists, is that when intestinal parasites are removed from their cycle of butts-fingers-mouth-guts-butts, then interesting things can happen.

first, most helminths (tiamat and shamir are different types) actually lay eggs which contain pregnant babies, as in the baby itself is pregnant before being born, sometimes down to the granddaughter level. after about 5 generations, around 6 months, the helminth will then begin to adapt to the out of cycle environment.

over time, they were fed various meats, sugars, etc... to find what works best as a diet. and, not surprisingly, they began to get rather large, often times as big as snakes, sometimes more.
