The whole thing with Lavrov's USSR sweatshirt was clearly planned.

At the beginning of the meeting with the US delegation, Putin allegedly 'jokingly' called Lavrov an "imperialist."

Later, the footage of this interaction was published by a Russian propagandist Pavel Zarubin.

The video shows the delegations in a three-on-three format several minutes before the start of the meeting. In the footage, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is seen addressing Lavrov, saying, "I like your shirt," presumably referring to the sweater with the "USSR" inscription. After that, Lavrov turned to Putin, explaining what it was about.

"Imperialist," Putin remarked with a smile. Representatives of both delegations laughed.

Lavrov publicly recalled this episode today, just a couple of hours ago. He said that the American side had liked his sweater:

"Without any hysteria, they simply said that they liked this shirt, as Marco Rubio put it," Lavrov said.

The American side probably appreciated the reminder that the USSR has collapsed and no longer exists
