I had a grandfather who was completely blind on his left eye. Even though he functioned normally, he still had a very peciliar almost crow-like head movements because he had trouble with depth perception while playing chess, dominoes or when doing anything that was 0.5-3 meters away from him. Beyond that he worked fine so your character reminded me of him.
