> pioneers are often the ones that take the brunt of a new thing people don't like. It didn't help that Sony fanned the flames as well despite doing the same thing a few years down the line.
>are things people don’t really care about today
They do care about it, that's why home console sales have fallen off a cliff in the subsequent years. The PS4 and the Switch were the last two really well-off consoles and the Switch doubles as Nintendo's portable offering.
All of the things that were shitty about the Xbox One is still shitty today and consumers have let Sony AND Xbox know. The only console manufacturer that isn't hurting right now is Nintendo, and even they have a negative hardware sale rate compared to what they were doing when they had a separate DS line + home console line.
It turns out when you tell everyone that they'll own nothing and be happy, they'll just go back to gaming on their phones where they already know they own nothing but don't have to spend $500 for the privilege of owning nothing.
