Danganronpa is also not only part Kodaka, but part Masafumi Takada for the music and part Rui Komatsuzaki. It's going to be hard for me to imagine Danganronpa without the artstyle of Rui Komatsuzaki. Kodaka has written plenty of games without either of them, Takada does music almost everywhere, yet I feel that without Rui it's no longer DR. I dunno, I'll admit that's just me being oldfashioned desu

Since you've just started playing this game, don't bother giving gifts or hanging out with your classmates just yet. When you explore outside the school, do take the time to go for chests or squares with a star as those will unlock special gifts for students. Also don't bother with the instant exploration option yet, the resources you get will not be enough for you later.
Try also to do the battles from the simulation thing when you can as those give you BP, necessary whenever you need to upgrade characters.
If you want a recommendation on what battle items you might want to craft, do the potions that gives you 1hp, more attack, and cure fatigue.
