Aptitude, gained skills and expertise are what is "reset" in a Skeleton. Armour King helps us understand this. Skeletons lacking AI cores are frames with open-ended CPUs. They can be reprogrammed into, for instance, capable bodyguards. Soldierbots were useful in that way - they could be custom fit to the job need.
Units with AI Cores are different. Their memories do not get reset. Their inner personalities are upstream from their frame's capabilities. When they reset, they're basically emptying their harddrive of software, its saved states, various caches, etc. They do not forget who they are. They do not forget the past. They know exactly when this began and how far things have fallen. That's why most have self-terminated and you see dramatically more drones than you do sentient Skeletons. Most couldn't take it.
