Other than just not feeling it for a while, I've never felt the need to abstain. There's no evidence that abstaining is better for you other than aiding in any personal problems one might have with masturbation taking control of their lives, and any benefits are short-term unless acted upon in a more psychological manner than just taking a month off.

Porn and masturbation has never controlled me. Even if I am desperately horny, real life needs always take priority for me.
