Which is a shame, since her story arc is about pursuing her dreams to find acceptance. So, people forgetting about her dear friends is kinda ironic.

I'm sure MvC3 in particular was laziness. But, not really sure why they aged down Lucy and Grace for MvC2. Seems like it would be more work than importing their old sprites or editing her hair again.
