I think that was a great move because it really simulated and captured what that time was like. The movie was vague about what was happening because everyone in the U.S was completely in the dark about the chaos and disorder going on at that time. It felt like all of a sudden we were sliding towards civil war over made up bullshit while everything we knew and loved was vanishing due to some amorphous "pandemic".
I had to explain this to the Euros when I was over in France last year when they were talking about the COVID stuff in their cunts and what 2020 was like there, and none of them knew about the riots, CHAZ, Kyle Rittenhouse or any of that crazy shit that defined that year in the U.S because their media just didn't report on it at all. If you aren't American, this movie does do a fantastic job of capturing how insane of a blip that year was and how we're still reckoning with the consequences of it this far out.
