The mongols left you in peace and allowed many freedoms as long as you paid tribute and didn't rebel. In contrast, there was no way to reason with the teutons; they would kill and torture you even if you converted to vhristianity. There was simply no way to reason with them. They truly loved violence and bloodshed.
