Tony's Italian identity is more abstract than that. He thinks he belongs to an oppressed creed that was noble for wanting to make something of themselves rather than be meek dimwitted worker bees. He's too based to be *really* invested in his heritage. You're just French for the sake of it, for the sake of being different.
