It is pretty rigid plywood and nearly half an inch thick (7/16ths"). But I will slot in supports under those two cross pieces. It all improves it.

Here is the offcut from the piece I used. Cheapest strong and inflexible piece they had. I think this type of plywood flexes less than the prettier whole layer stuff.
