Alas, realistically, Mike could never end up with James or anyone else,otherwise we could have nice things like MikeXStacy. We all know that Lucy is, somehow, the endgame on this comic, or at least, it is something that needs to be fully resolved before moving on with anything else.

The whole comic literally spins around the MikeXLucy dynamic. Not saying that that's a good thing, it's just the way it is.
