I have a theory.

It's called Panspermia. The Meteorite and, by extension, corru is some kind of interstellar organism that spreads by "infesting" new habitable planets, if not outright making them habitable. It's like the Star Control II Mycon, except (hopefully) with less genocide. The life cycle is as follows:
1. The "meteor" impacts on the surface, deep enough that it can safely gestate
2. It seeds life and deposits humanoid lifeforms onto the surface at a somewhat early evolutionary stage
3. It grows tendrils across the entire ocean, which grow pods like rhizobia. These are the "corrucysts".
4. It waits for the humanoid caretakers to find the corrucysts and to interface with them.
5. Once they interface, or after sufficient time has passed, it can start Calling them back, prompting them to find the Meteor.
6. They merge back into the Meteorite which then splits apart in a form of sexual reproduction
7. The planet probably fucking explodes and flings the meteorites to new destinations
The human meteorite is older than the Obesk one but, for some reason, its tendrils got cut off and it was unable to grow any corrucysts, yet it's Calling anyway.
Is this the book of Genesis? Yeah probably. Proof? Trust me bro.
