>Do you hear any news about Venezuela recently?
Not a lot. Venezuela is a fairly insulated state, to the point that I imagine what we hear about them isn't that different than what you do, exept whenever they do stuff that directly concerns us, like the Suriname thing a couple of years back. At this point, everyone is waiting to see what the US will do. You don't move troops and ships around for no reason, those things costs rivers of money just existing, and even more just moving them around.
My money is that Trump will try negotiating access to Venezuelan oil again, and that he moved troops there because he believes that gives him leverage - the idea being that having them there lets him negotiate from a greater position of strength. This is nothing new from Trump, as he tends to act like this, maybe due to his past as a New York businessman. If you ask what I think, in my opinion if they want access to Venezuelan oil they could just negotiate some sort of sanction relief. He would get what he wants and Maduro would have some internal pressure relieved if his economy started doing better.
There's also the possibility that the American goal is regime change. I find this unlikely to succeed for several reasons: the first was mentioned above, the insulated nature of Maduro's regime. The second is that millions of Venezuelans that didn't like Maduro already left the country throughout the decades, and the ones that are left either like him or don't have the political power to rise up. The only hope is the military, and that could go either way, but I'd like to add that there's a lot of resentment against the US inside Venezuela due to the effects that sanctions had on their country.
