No, you're on the right track, a fuckton of the internet is hilariously inauthentic. People have been buying hoards of likes and follows for like a decade and a half. Lolcows like Lowtiergod are partially infamous for buying Twitch subs in an attempt to look like they're getting tons of money. Blue checkmark accounts on Twitter will have several hundred thousands of followers but their actual tweets are only getting sub-1k likes, and of course much less retweets and quote tweets. Basically every mainstream platform is festering in a venn diagram of porn bots and AI bots inflating the traffic to high heaven. And while I've never seen a definitive instance of Patreon botting, my personal cutoff before I start giving something the sideeye is around 10k paid members, because even someone like Vivziepop isn't even cracking 3k paid members despite:
>Roughly 11 million Youtube subscribers
>The Hazbin pilot has nearly 120 million views, 3.5 million likes
>Every Hazbin/Helluva episode cracks several million views
What do you actually need to fucking do in order to actually get Patreon subscribers that aren't just total fake bullshit if even multimillion view episodes of animation on a regular schedule isn't cutting it?
