Russian Pulkovo Airport in Saint Petersburg was temporarily closed following an overnight drone attack, forcing a flight of Russian tourists from Sharm el-Sheikh to make an emergency landing in Tallinn, reports Postimees.
Early Sunday morning, the plane touched down in Tallinn after it was unable to reach its original destination. According to Postimees, the emergency diversion was caused by the drone attack, which temporarily halted operations at Pulkovo Airport.
Margot Holts, Head of Marketing and Communications at Tallinn Airport, said the Egyptian airline AlMasria Universal Airlines flight landed in Tallinn at 5:33 AM local time. The flight had been traveling from Sharm el-Sheikh to Pulkovo Airport in Saint Petersburg.
Holts explained that the plane had been redirected to land in Tallinn because it could not land at Pulkovo due to the temporary closure.
The aircraft departed from Tallinn at 11:08 AM and continued its journey to Saint Petersburg. Passengers and crew were not allowed to leave the plane while on the ground in Tallinn.
