Jackie Kennedy's redesign endures as peak American style. It's elegant without being ostentatious, or vulgar. It hearkened back to the late 17th century early 18th century origins of America, a colonial then revolutionary past. Specifically she emphasized the William and Mary -->> Queen Anne style of architectural design. One could debate the rooms that were done in the Federal Style, or the French Empire style in another room or the American Empire style and even the Victorian Style but even there the heavy use of Louis XV style gilt work was never a thing. This is Trumps favorite though. He uses it extensively in the Trump Tower residence without understanding it and thus it's a grotesque pastiche. Just slapping ornament on top of steel stud and gyproc walls with lots of glitz isn't architecture.
