Absolutely this. It is so infuriating to see ponies portrayed as weak, helpless, headless chickens when it comes to anything related to violence. It is not just fanon, it is fanon that is explicitly and consistently anti-canon. We see ponies in situations like that plenty of times and they never act like naive pacifists. In the very first episode of the show when Nightmare Moon shows up, a small town mayor's reaction is to order guards to attack her and they don't hesitate to obey. When they thought Zecora had actually done something to them they went out to her home to directly confront her, with Twilight literally butting heads with her about to physically fight her. Against the buffalo they were quick to start preparing for war with no hesitation when the buffalo said they were going to attack. There are tons of examples making it indisputably clear how ponies act in regards to this. Headless chicken ponies don't start until the S2 finale, but even in that episode they still had Celestia having no reservations about trying to turn Chrysalis into a scorch mark on the floor.
It's easily one of the worst fucking things. Anyone who does it actively rejects the show and doesn't have the slightest clue what the hell they're doing.
