The planes were definitely remote-controlled drones. A regular plane couldn't even pierce a metal pole at high speeds, air resistance would tear it apart at sea level.

The plane phone calls were fake and gay, and they swapped the real planes and with remote-controlled, plane-like drones. The only clear picture of the second plane is in black and white.
