Anime/manga are not canon, and the manga debuted before SKK become a proper character. CT onwards, SKK has always been written as a male protagonist for a male-oriented franchise.

It only worked for PNC because it was a spinoff game and it aimed to explore the dolls that GF1 just cannot (brand limitations, story limitations etc.). Despite having some well-liked males, the game ended up having to sell more female characters.
