It feels good to rally yourself and your in-group against ''the other'' and that which you think is beneath you. Oxytocin is both good as making us bond with each other, but it is also good at making is feel emotionally muted towards people with which this bonding has not occurred, this is what makes tribalism so easy for humans as social animals. Its a way to validate yourself, and in some cases - a way to hide your own sins and shortcomings. Human's are social animals, and if you create an online culture of rallying against something and pointing out the impure (whatever the definition of purity is for the group), then you can find identity and community in this - and thus validate your own existence, get a sense of purpose.
