Rx 480 8GB was cheaper than GTX 1060 6GB and after driver updates matched it in dx11 and older apis while being better in future dx12 and vulkan games. 8GB of vram also aged way better and has only started to have issues in the last few years while 6gb became obsolete way sooner.
