>often the most personal touches you can make come in the form of dialogue, story, music, etc. that's where the developer really gets to express themselves. and if you're just going to dismiss that as "muh special snowflake text walls", then yeah, you're probably not part of the audience I care about capturing.
I was being facetious with that line and probably could've put it better so don't take it too seriously. My point was that these devs are willing to sacrifice player agency where many others wouldn't think to do so because, as I mentioned above, they have the idea that restricting the players fast-forward freedom will change how they interact with your game, which I feel is misguided. I call it "special snowflake" in this case because it comes off just a bit, self-important I guess? That kinda sounds bad too but do you get what I mean? I understand the importance of expressing yourself, and highly appreciate the efforts that go into hackmaking, but it's just obnoxious. I was gonna read it all anyways, now I'm questioning what you wrote that you thought was so important it warranted removing built-in emulator features to railroad the lowest common denominator.
I actually am the kind of player who will stop to talk to every NPC, I stop and listen to all the custom music, I explore every corner of every map, I make notes of places of interest to re-visit later, and I give my full attention to the story the dev has wrote. I also am a large proponent of speeding up the game in bursts if and when I feel necessary. Taking this away from me shows you don't respect my ability as the player to control this tool, and it sours me on the game before I even give it a chance. If I do still give it a chance and end up enjoying it then it'll hurt my willingness to replay the game in the future when what was novel and exciting before gets a bit more stale.
