Yes experiences leave mental impressions in the brain that in Buddhist language are called samskaras. Like if your ex girlfriend drove a blue mustang and now every time you see a blue mustang you are reminded of that pain and feel some of it again.

There’s a mechanism where if we want to avoid and push away feeling an experience, like getting dumped by the girl in the blue mustang, it stores that pain in the form of a mental impression(samskara).

To be free from these pain points you must voluntarily feel the negative feelings. Avoiding it every time it comes up aggregated and grows the pain.

If you also accept experience as it comes, new samskaras will not form.

Just FYI that most dedicated all-in monks and meditators never make it this far and won’t even recognize these statements as valid. Explore for yourself.
