I really feel like anyone who says this hasn't actually read either work.
Like, Higurashi fundamentally fails as a mystery work. Umineko even states this, Higurashi was not written well enough for it to actually be classified as a mystery, the ultimate culprit is a literal brain disease that is only barely foreshadowed and simply acts as a 'Mysterious Mental Illness X'.
Even ignoring that though, both works share absurd levels of tonal whiplash (both intentional and unintentional), and Umineko itself is a story that outright hates being told. To call either work a "masterpiece" is absurd.
