When you get a duplicate you receive generic eligma and that students eligma
You can use any of them to upgrade the mistyc(stars) for that student
Depending on their rarity you get more of both
1star=1 ligma each
2star=20 generic and 10 student ligma
3star=50 and 30
If you get a duplicate unit from their own banner or use the exchange points you get 70 extra eligmas from that student

Not really. The cost of eligma for a student eleph goes up after buying enough. It starts at a 1 to 1 rate for the first 20 elephs, then 2 for 1 for the next 20 elephs, and so on, capping at 5 eligma per eleph.
