It only worked with those two because they were used to explain world building stuff and introduce you to their homes and factions.
Nefer being foreign made it even more bullshit to slot in. Lauma and Flins feel like that one Yoimiya prison bit in Inazuma act 1 (not her SQ), or any other section of an AQ where you're introduced to a character and help them out a bit. Except it's longer.
And Durin is getting his own standalone SQ so they could've done the same shit here.
