I will never understand why it was so popular in Japan, other than the fact that it has kaiju in it. I started reading it because it had an adult as the main character, and imagine my disappointment when I realized he had the mentality and goals of a teenager, and behaved like one too. It would’ve been a thousand times more interesting if the MC had stayed a nobody in charge of cleaning up after kaiju battles; at least then it wouldn’t have been yet another boring power fantasy action shonen manga.
