>Nikke giving the middle finger to gook meme creators
>QRD?
NTA but the gist of the issue the following.
Doro, the meme creature, was a meme created by a fan artist.
Doro became VERY popular.
Then Shift Up (Nikke developers) contacted said fan artist and gave him an official job in Shift Up as an official artist.
Fan artist accepted and Doro became officially a part of the Nikke marketing, and started to appear in official merch and promos.
It was never "disputed" if Doro belonged to Shift Up or the fanartist since the dude was happy having a job and he never tried to fight for residuals or similar for it's use.
Recently Tencent went behind Shift Up and the fanartist and trademarked Doro and now the meme belongs to Tencent.
Shift Up and the fanartist are just fine and nothing has changed between them, however Tencent is bitching about people making fanart of Doros and that they need to request permission to them to make memes.
The community is upset since they dislike how Tencent basically stole Doro out of nowhere and now wants to protect it like Nintendo.
