Truckers used to be so much safer years ago even though commercial vehicles had less safety features and and regulations were less strict.

Keep in mind that commercial trucks come with loads of safety features that didn't exist in 2008 and on top of that since then the hours of service rules are electronically enforced and just across the board all rules and regulations are stricter and more easily enforced in general. Pre 2008 guys would run two or three log books and run like 6,000 miles a week solo but even after FMCSA started it's massive crack down on the trucking industry around that same time yet still all the wrong numbers have gone up since then. This should really make everyone take note.
