Because it took a lot of risks and while they did not pay off, the game is slowly being reappreciated for its political themes becoming increasingly relevant, the ending actually having multiple choices carrying over from the game course, lots of details ect... this argument is garbage because movies like Blade Runner were a flop on relase but slowly became a cult classic, or Alan Wake who underperformed at relase but got carried over by its fanbase over the years.
DE was a flop, but all the risk it took was rehashing the original story by bringing back Max and trying to soft reboot her world and character, shitting on the previous game choices and generally being poorly made. Completely different from what LiS2 did.
