SA2 is the Spider-Man 2 of Sonic. It isn't the greatest story ever told in the history of writing but it hits the appeal of the franchise with such precision that everything after is stuck in its shadow. The mere IDEA of a FUTURE Sonic game coming out and having a better story than SA2 is seen as absurd to the entire fandom even though stories better than SA2 get released all the time. Outside of this franchise.

Even people who believe SA2 introduced everything horrible about this franchise cannot deny its impact.
