Certainly not a new concept! "Respectability Politics" has existed for a long time, and it has its fair share of critics. But I think it helps to change hearts and mind over time, helps to prevent the "othering" that occurs.
I think the struggle with things today is that the fringes / extreme members of a group have an even louder voice today thanks to social media and news outlets. So it's far easier to say "Oh, they are all like this..." for any group (trans people certainly included).

There was some drama that I specifically called out within the last week. Also, by calling out drama, you are further fanning the flames, so I prefer to ignore it if I can.
Being friendly is my default. I also tend to only show that side to someone when they aren't participating in drama. I'm not a moderator and I'm not some sort of moral compass. People can do whatever they want and I'll do the same.
