This is 100% true. I tried playing it pure when the game was slower, the deck was an absolute unplayable mess. I tried playing it when Runick released, the deck was fun when it worked but usually it didn't and the deck felt more like a bad Runick deck than a good Musket one.
Fiendsmith actually fixes the deck though. The cards synergize so well that they may as well be in the same archetype. And while you may be doing most of your turn 1 plays with Fiendsmith, the payoff is 90% the Muskets so it actually feels like a Musket deck.
Assuming you're actually running the spells/traps and aren't just playing for Starfire anyway.
If you want to play Muskets you should swallow your pride and take the Fiendsmith pill. At LEAST play Tract.
