There was never this fetishistic, antagonistic, insincere provocation regarding discussion of Nazis in WW2 media. Games like Wolfenstein were enjoyed by those of all sides of the political aisle, by gamers, by boomers who enjoyed war and non-fictional settings in their entertainment, etc. Killing Nazis was something you did because they were trying to kill you in the game, or you're a US Army Ranger or spy on a mission. They were a skin for the bad guys. It wasn't about bathing in their blood and having some cathartic release over killing the evil Nazis, it was about the fast-paced action.
