Coalition of the Willing defence chiefs to 'plan and define' Ukraine security guarantees

Defence chiefs of the Coalition of the Willing countries who were involved in Monday's talks are going to meet tomorrow in person, our Europe producer Simone Baglivo understands.

Baglivo says the talks will work on defining what security guarantees for Ukraine actually look like.

He adds that they are separate to the news we brought you earlier - see our 16.58 post - that NATO defence chiefs are meeting virtually tomorrow as well.

A source tells Baglivo the in-person meeting in the US will "plan and define real measures to ensure Ukraine has robust security guarantees in the event of a ceasefire or a peace deal".

Among the military officials attending the meeting are Italy's chief of the defence staff General Luciano Portolano and Britain's chief of the defence staff Admiral Sir Tony Radakin too.

EU cabinet debrief

This isn't the only meeting on the books, with the EU's Commission cabinet also meeting tomorrow morning.

President Ursula von der Leyen and all 27 members will attend the virtual meeting, with the aim to debrief following meetings on Monday and today.
