As for the palace it was most definitely made of timber because they found post holes imbedded into the stone foundation. So it is NOT ROMAN! Why it looks roman? well the engineer who designed it may have travelled to Massalia or even Italia itself, he may have studied under a roman engineer or he just designed it from memory but Roman/Greek influence is obvious I'm not denying that. There are stark differences though in its design compared to roman villas the timber Constuction being the obvious one.
