I'm in that camp.
Izuku had 0 friends his entire life outside of his stockholm syndrome relationship with Bakugo.
His classmates joined in on Bakugo's bullying.
His teachers joined in.
His failure of a mother couldn't even lie to a 4 year old and pretend to believe in him. He's fucking FOUR. He lived his entire life knowing his only parental figure does not have any faith in him right from the start of his life.
Single parent upbringing, Izuku's father is completely absent. Even when Izuku thinks he is dying while fighting Muscular he only thinks of his mother, not his father. Obviously AFO is his father but Hori dropped that plot point, presumably because it would add like 50 chapters and he just wanted out, AFO's doctor being the doctor Inko/Izuku are treated by and the first flashback of appearence of AFO literally just being adult Izuku is enough to go on without bringing any of the later stuff up.
I'm pretty sure Izuku's drive to be a hero was more an anchor to keep him sane.
UA was a chance for Izuku to finally hit the reset button on his life and then Bakugo shows up and so Izuku never changes.
It honestly reads like the setup to a ntr doujin with Izuku's backstory and Ochako having that inital crush. If there was any sense of realism here she's going to be put off by how much of a self sabotaging loser Izuku is and she'll get the tingles when Bakugo verbally and physically beats the shit out of Izuku while getting away with it.
