With the "CHECK ENGINE" shit they, on purpose, tried to give mechanically ignorant normies the impression their engine was about to explode if the emissions controls fail because they knew everyone living in places not subject to yearly testing would promptly ignore anything to do with what the tailpipe yeets out. So they just lie to instill fear in people. Depending on where he lives that redditors car might just require a 30 bucks test pipe and ECU reflash to run perfectly fine for the next half decade.
